How to start your own perfume line

If you have never sold perfume before, creating your own perfume line can sound very glamorous but starting your own fragrance line is much harder than it actually sounds, especially if you plan on creating a fragrance line fit for retail. Below we will list the basics of starting your own fragrance line.

We suggest before starting your own fragrance line to first start selling perfume to see whether you have the personality and the skills to build up a client base. Please read our post on how to network as a perfume agent to build on and improve the skills you already have. You might need the following services which we can assist with.

  • Logo Design – This will require a graphic designer. There are Apps and websites that offer free logo design services and it’s a good starting point if you have no access to a graphic designer. This is optional.
  • Logo Printing – This will require a company specialising in label printing/packaging. We have affordable digital labels or transfers as an option. This is optional.
  • Bottle Selection – We have an extensive bottle catalogue you can select from
  • Box Design – This will require a graphic designer. This is optional.
  • Box Printing – This will require a company specialising in packaging. This is optional.
  • Fragrance Selection – We have an extensive fragrance catalogue you can choose from

We have an inhouse graphic designer to assist you with the artwork for your label or box design based on whichever option you select from the following.

Option 1 to 4 are based on our 17% oil range in standard bottles. Option 5 and 6 are based on our 17% oil range in any bottle on our catalogue.

Perfume Agents Wanted -Fragrance line sold through networking with your own logo

Below is the basics you need to start selling immediately. Our minimum order requirement of R1000, to qualify for wholesale prices, can be ordered with no label or with our digitally printed label. This option is also suitable if you want to start selling perfume in your own hair, beauty or nail salon or if you want to sell perfume in a gift shop.

Option 1 – perfumes in standard bottles, including stickers, excluding boxes

  • An order of 16 x 50ml or 26 x 30ml perfume consisting of different fragrances
  • Although testers are not necessary, as most of your clients will likely know how the perfumes smell, it’s advisable to order testers if you have never marketed perfume before.
  • The minimum cost for a labeled fragrance line will be +-R1000 which includes the perfume, sticker label for the perfumes but excludes boxes.

Option 2 – perfumes in standard bottles, including stickers, including boxes

  • An order of 16 x 50ml or 26 x 30ml perfume consisting of different fragrances
  • Although testers are not necessary, as most of your clients will likely know how the perfumes smell, it’s advisable to order testers if you have never marketed perfume before.
  • The minimum cost for a labeled fragrance line will be +-R1200 which includes the perfumes, sticker label for the boxes and perfumes and including white generic boxes.

Option 2 can be customised to include custom printed boxes instead of white generic boxes. If you prefer this option please let us know and we will requote.

Fragrance line sold through networking with your own logo

Below is the basics you need to launch your own fragrance line if you intend selling to family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances. After you have successfully established yourself at networking and have built up an existing customer base we suggest you move on to developing your own retail quality fragrance line if you so wish.

Option 3 – perfumes in standard bottles, including stickers, excluding boxes

  • An order of 28 x 50ml or 46 x 30ml perfume consisting of different fragrances
  • Although testers are not necessary, as most of your clients will likely know how the perfumes smell, it’s advisable to order testers if you have never marketed perfume before.
  • The minimum cost for a labeled fragrance line will be +-R1800 which includes the perfume, sticker label for the perfumes but excludes boxes.

Option 4 – perfumes in standard bottles, including stickers, including boxes

  • An order of 28 x 50ml or 46 x 30ml perfume consisting of different fragrances
  • Although testers are not necessary, as most of your clients will likely know how the perfumes smell, it’s advisable to order testers if you have never marketed perfume before.
  • The minimum cost for a labeled fragrance line will be +-R2000 which includes the perfumes, sticker label for the boxes and perfumes and including white generic boxes.

Below is the basics you need to launch your own fragrance line if you intend selling to family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances. Option 5 – perfumes in any bottle on our catalogue including stickers, excluding boxes

  • An order of 47 x 50ml or 75 x 30ml perfume consisting of different fragrances
  • Although testers are not necessary, as most of your clients will likely know how the perfumes smell, it’s advisable to order testers if you have never marketed perfume before.
  • The minimum cost for a labeled fragrance line will be +-R3000 which includes the perfume, sticker label for the perfumes but excludes boxes.

Option 6 – perfumes in any bottle on our catalogue including stickers, including boxes

  • An order of 47 x 50ml or 75 x 30ml perfume consisting of different fragrances
  • Although testers are not necessary, as most of your clients will likely know how the perfumes smell, it’s advisable to order testers if you have never marketed perfume before.
  • The minimum cost for a labeled fragrance line will be +-R3000 which includes the perfumes, sticker label for the boxes and perfumes and including white generic boxes.

Option 6 can be customised to include custom printed boxes instead of white generic boxes. If you prefer this option please let us know and we will requote.

Fragrance line sold in retail shops with your own logo and box

Below is the basics you need to launch your own fragrance line if you intend on selling in a retail shop environment. Although you can market a variety of fragrances with your own custom logo, this option best suits the individual who wants to sell 1 fragrance which has a direct printed logo or litho label including a custom printed box.

  • Logo Design – This will require a graphic designer. There are Apps and websites that offer free logo design services. Although most of these Apps output really mass produce logos that wont be exclusively yours, its a good starting point if you have no access to a graphic designer.
  • Logo Printing – This will require a company specialising in label printing/packaging.
  • Bottle Selection – We have an extensive bottle catalogue you can choose from
  • Box Design – This will require a graphic designer.
  • Box Printing – This will require a company specialising in packaging.
  • Fragrance Selection – We have an extensive fragrance catalogue you can choose from.
  • Depending on your requirements the minimum it will cost for a retail quality fragrance line is R6 000 to R15 000 excluding the cost of hiring a graphic designer. This estimate includes 28 x 50ml perfume including a direct printed logo thats printed onto the bottle or litho label with a custom printed box. All extra printed bottles and/or labels and boxes can be sent to the customer or we can warehouse it for future orders.

We have recently made our starter kits more customisable. If you would like to order a tester kit in the bottle, pump and cap of your choice and not in our standard bottles please let us know and we will check if the bottle is available and we will quote accordingly.

How to start your own perfume line with starter or tester kit

A starter kit serves the purpose of showing your customer the filled perfume bottles and testing the fragrances you’ve ordered in your starter kit. A starter kit or tester kit is not meant to be sold to your customers but merely serves the purpose of allowing your customers to see what they can expect once they place their orders with you.
